Quail Ridge Country Club in Boynton Beach, Florida is making over its storied South Course with an expert renovation by Bobby Weed. Respected for its challenge and admired for its amazing incorporation of natural landscape into the design, players will have a chance to rediscover the course this fall, with its in-progress redesign.
The South Course’s renovation comes roughly a year after Quail Ridge’s addition of a new clubhouse in late 2017. As one of the first of the two courses to receive this treatment, high expectations were set. The South Course is more than just a beloved way to spend tee time – it exists as part of the Club’s living history, with it having been originally built by Joe Lee in the 70s. That’s why the members and the pro team of this Club were insistent that the course must be preserved, updated, and maintained to the highest standards.
Enter course designer Bobby Weed. A hidden secret in the golf world, Weed and his company, Bobby Weed Golf Design, are behind some of the most well-known courses in existence. Among their original projects is the 18-hole course at Spanish Oaks Golf Club, and among their renovations is the course at Grandfather Golf and Country Club, each of them the proud recipients of a variety of awards. It was no surprise that the team at Quail Ridge Country Club would select him for the update of their beloved South Course.
With Bobby Weed Golf Design’s recent award for Excellence in Achievement for course design from BoardRoom Magazine, Quail Ridge knew that Weed and his team would be the only one able to truly preserve Lee’s vision, while granting the course a more modern touch. The plans for the course include introducing more visual contrast, creating unique bunkering layouts, and introducing less prominent green complexes, for a more challenging and engaging game. Through Weed’s vision and experience, and the Club’s commitment to both preservation and progress, the course will reach new standards in excellence.
For the members of Quail Ridge Country Club Weed’s work on The South Course means more than simply updating it. The Club is, first and foremost, a golf Club. The Society of Seniors Championship was played here, as was The Golf Road Cup in 2018. At the same time, it has hosted community wide classics and tournaments, practice sessions shared between students and PGA Professionals at the practice facility, and private tee times shared between friends. Golf history has been forged on Quail Ridge’s greens, and continues to be made here.
Quail Ridge Country Club has served as the home away from home for many of its members for generations. They return for games on its two golf courses, and for rounds of play between friends on the Har-Tru tennis courts. PGA Professional staff is there to help members improve their golf skills, using state-of-the-art technology and programs. The tennis program is just as outstanding, with staff offering games, clinics, and events for Intra-Club Leagues, Inter-Club Leagues, and casual players.
Social events here are tailored to members’ interests and can vary from holiday parties to tours around town. The newly renovated Clubhouse is perfect for hosting private events or meeting neighbors at public ones. When members return to Quail Ridge, they return to the home that best reflects how they live.
